What is Landlord/Tenant Law in India?

In India, the enacting law for the regulation of rent, protection of the rights of landlords and the rights of tenants as well are administered under the Rent Control Act.

The Rent Control Act was a central act, passed by the legislation in 1948. It controls the rules of renting out a property and makes sure that neither the landlords nor the tenants’ rights are exploited or threatened by each other. It should also be taken into consideration that, each state has its own version of the Rent Control Act, though essentially similar to each other, they hold some minor differences.

In 1992 the Central Government tried to bring about amendments and changes to the Act via a suggested model to ensure that the property in context is not devalued. Sadly, the changes were opposed by the sitting tenants and therefore failed to be enacted.
