Is there a dress code to visit a nearby police station(Chennai), Are shorts allowed or what kind of attire is NOT permitted. for instance: had been to the police station(dated:01/07/20) in running shorts, the traffic cops humiliated me and sent me back. I did obey. So the question- is there a dress code visiting the police station. or any dress code that violates or disrespects the police personnel. I don't know if the question is silly, I have faced another problem in customs office for sitting with my legs crossed. would be happy to know the rules that are in place for the dress code and code of conduct. If the acts are in violation I'd like to oblige. thank you in advance.

Even there is no such code but some decency is to be maintained. For example judges cannot go for walking in Lord Hanuman Dress. Public offices maintain implied dress code.

Dear Preeth There is no dress code prescribed to appear before law enforcement agencies. But, one should bear in his mind that after all he is appearing before officers who have their own dignity connected with position what they hold.
