Lost My Leg In A Building Collapse

I lost my right leg above the knee in a building collapse happened in last October. My left leg also seriously injured, so I am in bed for almost a year. It might take 1 more year for me to start walking and get a prosthetic leg. My neighbours building was demolishing (they were my friends too). They asked me for helping them. I said them ok I will help. But unexpectedly the building collapsed and I stuck under it. I lost my leg. and I was hospitalized for 4 months, still, I am in bed. I didn't file a complaint against them( not even a police case). I want to complaint now( after 1 years). I have few questions. 1) Can I file a complaint for compensation. 2) Asked the same question in some online lawer communities. Some advocates said that I am definitely eligible for huge compensation. but some of them told me that I am not eligible because I was helping them voluntarily. They told me about voluntary non fit injuria. It was their negligence. So can I file a case for compensation?
