Bike Stolen From My Residence

My bike was stolen from my residence between 12 am to 5 am on 18/05/2020. The bike has a registration certificate. But does not have insurance, the previous insurance expired in 2019. The bike is not under my name it is my cousin's bike (He is currently abroad). I have possession of the original RC though. I went to the police station and they wrote down the details on a book including my number and said they'll look into it. 2 cops also came to the area to look around. But my insecurity is that I don't have any proof that I approached the police after it was lost. So in case let's say the bike is misused with the same registration number later will I be held accountable. I asked the cop this. He said an FIR will be hard to file. So I voiced this concern of mine (I asked if I can have a receipt for my complaint or something) but then he was like since we wrote it down on that book all that is unnecessary.
