Divorce Query

My husband is assaulting me physically and mentally. I want to divorce him. I have 8 years old son. Also, my husband and myself are staying in a rented house in the same building where my parents stay. I am not able to go to my parent's house as my husband will come there as well. I am not sure how to proceed in this scenario. Will I get the custody of my son? I am working and an independent woman. However, husband is torturing me a lot even for small issues, attacking me physically, in front of my son. My son also behaves sometimes like him. Please let me know how to proceed.
