There was an incident in our residential area where a young girl used highly abusive and derogatory language to a senior citizen and also screamed at them just because senior citizens asked her to keep their pets away from people who are on the walk. This was posted in one of the residents group on WhatsApp where many condemned the act and the foul language used by the young girl. I too saw and expressed my displeasure on the act and language used for Senior Citizens. To which she has sent a legal notice to all asking an apology in the group within 4 days failing which we have to pay some 20000 towards the legal fees. Although it is unfortunate to have this letter from her and instead of correcting herself, she has sent this legal note. Please suggest what should be the response. Further to add she must be 20/22 years old and was moving with her pet along with others who too had pets. She was out of control and ran for hitting the senior citizens.

It would be most appropriate to counter the Legal Notice with a emphatical counter-claim and dismissing all the false claims. Then it would be more appropriate to Lodge a Complaint with the local police mentioning specifically the Senior Citizens rights as has been specifically described by Hon'ble Supreme Court and take the matter to some logical end to nip the evil forever. you should have to make a complaint to the police having signatures of all the citizens in your society in your favour. using such language is an offence . there is also provision if someone is having any pet permission has to be taken from the concerned department so it is matter of verification you can consult me
