I am a tenant residing in a room under paghdi syatem. The tenancy is in my grand uncle's name who had no relatives other than my grandma. After his death, my grandparents continued to reside and we are the lineage still here.New owners or landlords come and send legal notices to everyone in the building stating that we do not have the tenancy rights. We were asked 5-6 lakhs as transfer fee as we could not prove the relation with our grand uncle as we had no proofs. My father couldn't pay after which we were send more legal notices. He eventually got depressed and passed away. After my father's death, the landlord agreed to not hassle us anymore. But recently it has started again. So my questions are:
1)Are we liable to pay such a hefty amount for the transfer?
2) I can produce all the evidence for proving my residence for 12 years along with all the rent receipts. So can I claim adverse possession? Does that work under the paghdi system?
3) Worst case scenario if this goes to court
