The directions were made by Delhi High Court Division Bench comprising of Justice S Ravindra Bhat and Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva who was hearing a matter on state of the women’s safety post Nirbhaya Gangrape case. High Court had taken a suo motu cognizance of same.

Advocate Meera Bhatia, who is amicus curiae in the matter, informed Court that Police is completely aware of profiles of the offenders and is also cognizant with types of the crimes taking place against the women.

Swati Maliwal who is the Chairperson for Delhi Commission for the Women broke down while informing Court Bench about the recent incidents wherein the minor girls were raped. She further added that on an average, three women are raped every day.

ASG Sanjay Jain appearing on behalf of Centre submitted that earlier order of High Court with regard to the recruitment in Delhi Police had been communicated to Ministries of the Home Affairs and Finance for the compliance.

High Court Bench concluded that nothing concrete has been done in last three years to bring down rate of crimes against the women. Thus HC has directed that the Commissioner or any officer similar to his rank such as Special Commissioner of Police or Joint Commissioner be present during next hearing on December 11, 2017.
