Justice Indira Banerjee becomes Chief Justice of Madras HC

With the formation of Chief Justice of the Madras High Court of Justice Indira Banerjee, the command of four big High Courts of the Country has now in the hand of Women Chief Justice. So far only 4 High Courts have got female Chief Justice in the Country. These are Delhi, Calcutta, Madras and Bombay High Court. For the first time in the country, these four High Courts together have the Women Chief Justice. Justice Rohini Delhi, Justice Manjula Bombay, Justice Nishita Nirmal Mhatre is the Chief Justice of Calcutta (Acting).
For the first time in the Country, four women are Chief Justice of the High Court, but eight High Courts, where there is no single woman judge.
First woman lawyer, lady judge and Justice also:
Bellarici was the first woman lawyer. In 2000, she became the first woman judge of Karnataka High Court. In 2014, she became the first woman Chief Justice of Calcutta High Court. In December 2016, she was appointed as Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court.
Career started with Legal Reporting:
Became advocate in 1980 and start doing legal reporting. Then started advocating abandoning reporting. Became an Additional Judge in Andhra High Court. On April 21, 2014, she became first woman Chief Justice in Delhi High Court.
Graduate in Microbiology:
Mhatre graduated from micro-biology. After making the mind of advocacy, she did LLB. In 2012 she became the Judge of the Calcutta High Court and became Chief Justice (Acting) in 2016.
Studied from the famous Presidency College:
Studied in Presidency College. She became Judge in 2002 of Kolkata High Court. Came to Delhi in 2016. On April 5, 2017, became the Chief Justice of the Madras High Court.
So far, Delhi, Bombay, Madras and Calcutta High courts have got the female Chief Justice, only a woman judge in the Supreme Court
