Over 24 Lakh cases pending in Bengal Courts

All the promises and claims of getting quick justice for the people from the Center and the state government are being proven to be hollow. Lack of judges, including basic amenities, has resulted in a lot of litigation in all the courts.
State law minister Malay Ghatak informed in the assembly on Tuesday that till last June, around 24,18,374 cases were pending in different courts of West Bengal, including the Calcutta High Court. In response to the question asked by Congress MLA Nepal Mahto, he said that till June 2017, a total of 2,22,102 cases were pending in the Calcutta High Court and 21,96,272 cases were pending in the lower courts. At the same time, he said that in the lower courts, 17,17,741 cases were pending and 39630 criminal cases were pending in the Calcutta high court. At the same time, he said about civil cases that 6,00,663 cases were pending in the lower courts and 1,82,502 pending cases were pending in the High Court. Apart from this, Ghatak said that about 36 posts of judges are vacant in different courts of the state.
