Reservations only work in their quota : SC

The court said, the candidate of the reservations quota will get a job in the same category, even though he has achieved more marks than the general category candidate.
The people receiving the reservation will now get government jobs only in the reserved category. If they do not get seats in quota, they will not be given the General Quota. The Bench of Justice R Bhanumati and Justice AM Khanvilkar of the Supreme Court passed this decision while disposing of a petition. The court said, “Candidate of reservation quota will get a job in the same category, even if he has achieved more marks than the general category candidate.

- The Supreme Court said, “Often people of reservation quota apply in reserved quota reserved for government jobs. They demand seats of General Quota, if there is no seat remains in reserved Quota”
- “For this, sometimes the arguments are given for taking more marks than the demand of general quota or there are some other reasons, but this process is wrong.”
- The court gave the ruling on the petition of a woman candidate failing to get a job in reserved quota.
Applied for OBC and demand the job in General Quota
- A woman named Deepa Piwal filed a petition in the Supreme Court. He applied in the OBC category for the Lab Assistant Grade-II in the Indian Export Supervision Council under the Commerce Ministry. There were 82 marks in the examination.
- 11 people applying under the OBC quota were invited for an interview. Serena Joseph, who took 93 points, was given a job.
- The minimum cutoff marks were 70 in the General Quota. But there were not so many marks of any normal candidate.
- Deepa has demanded a job in the general category, then the ministry refused the application. The High Court again moved the Supreme Court.
