Why not the Taj Mahal shifted anywhere : Supreme Court
By Vkeel Team
The Supreme Court has made a remarkable comment about the permission for the construction of multi-level parking and cutting of thousands of trees without approval before the Taj Mahal. Ordering the parking collapse within four weeks, the apex court said that to allow the construction and cutting of trees near the historical heritage, why not shift the Taj Mahal to itself.
The decision of the bench of Justice Madan B Lokur and Justice Deepak Gupta came at a time when two days after Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister is going to visit Taj Mahal for review of tourism schemes. The bench ordered the Agra Administration to demolish the under-construction parking within the area of one kilometer of 17th century Heritage Center under the Orientation Center for tourists within four weeks.
The bench also expressed displeasure over the absence of a lawyer of the UP government. Later, the Additional Advocate General of the Government, Aishwarya Bhati, pleaded with the bench that this order should be banned, but the bench declined the ban on the moment. The bench told them that he would file a petition in this regard. This will be considered after filing a petition.
Environment and CEC sanction was not taken:
ADN Rao, advocate of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), told the bench that the parking of unauthorized construction is being done. He said that neither before the creation of this, environmental clearance was taken nor cleared from the CEC.
While reviewing the petition of environmentalist MC Mehta, the Supreme Court is monitoring the development work in the Taj Mahal area. In his petition, Mehta had sought to protect the Taj against the ill effects of polluting gases and the harvesting of trees surrounding it. Even before this, the apex court has given tough decisions on the issue of Taj’s security.
