My wife filed a case on a person and FIR is lodged under section 509. Now we want to take the case back. How to do it? Till now charge sheet not filed. 1) Can we go to the police station and give a letter saying that we want to take the case back. Will it serve the purpose or anything else we have to do.

Your wife could go to the concerned police station as the complaint was given by her and take back the complaint filed by her that would be sufficient.
