It was an arranged marriage, A cash amount was given as financial security for couple. Bike as gift for husband. After 3 months of marriage he started mentally abusing wife about character, scolding badly on small issues, but wife wanted to live with it, but now he started demanding extra cash, gold, car, without which he is denying entry into his house. He verbally abused her without caring she's pregnant & inlaws in front of wife's house /in front of neighbours and public & tried to enter home & assault her which he couldn't as door was locked. Please help with legal options available 1) What r my legal options available as per law 2) If we get divorce what about the money given to them as security(which is with husband) 3) What about the defamation he caused to her and her family in front of public. Any section in support. 4) After divorce if he threatens for life /if she face any harassment. What to do.

Hi, There are a number of laws in your favor and a number of organizations that can help you out of this situation. One of them includes domestive violence act, then the IPC wherein you can file for divorce stating cruelty and harassment. You can even visit the nearest womens commission to ensure that your problems are solved. Criminal defamation is under section 499 of the IPC. However, for defamation there has to be the presence of other members. There are sections which prevents the other person from trespass to person or property and harassment and criminal intimidation.
