RBI has given general permission to NRI to acquire property in India . However it does not mean that NRI can by any type of property in India . NRI can only purchase Commercial or residential property in India Subject to Specific rules NRI are not allowed to purchase agriculture land, farm land, farm houses. Under Fema and the Foreign Exchange Management (Acquisition and Transfer of Immovable Property in India) Regulations, 2018, NRIs are not permitted to purchase an agricultural land or plantation property or farmhouse in India. You need RBI permission which would not be easily granted You can visit RBI website for details regarding authority to be approached for purchase of agricultural land
