Dear Client, Cheque bounce is a criminal offence in India, covered under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act of 1881. So, if a complaint is filed in a court and, if found guilty, the defaulter can be punished with a prison term of two years and/or a fine, which can be as high as twice the cheque amount. Thank you.
