Does Trademark Protect Both The Brand Name And Logo.

Hi, Thank you for taking the time to help me out. I have a question/doubt. I have filed for a trademark for my startup and it is accepted and advertised. Recently I noticed while checking the status that the application says <mybrandname> with the device and the trademark type is mentioned as "device" in TM-1. So let's assume that the trademark I filed had my logo with my brand name in it. Does this trademark (if it gets registered) protect by brand name on the whole or just the logo? The Internet has been giving me various answers pertaining to wordmark vs device mark however the attorney who filed my trademark says my brand name is safe. I would like to confirm that. So my question is will another person be able to use my brand name in the same business class but with a different logo or colour combination without infringing my rights. Should I be filing a separate application as wordmark to protect my brand name?
